The Senator has always focused on the highest quality ingredients like Cumbrae’s Farms Beef, organic milk from Sheldon Creek Dairy, fresh-squeezed orange juice, home-made stocks, sauces, and batters, and a commitment to only use organic wherever possible. The Senator is entering the digital age with an expanded social presence and a whole new look. Learn more about the Senator at: thesenator.com, Facebook, Twitter, and more.

Opportunity for local and independent businesses at #localTOmrkt

Downtown Yonge BIA would like to highlight a new opportunity for member businesses, just in time for the holidays!

AdHoc, a new joint venture for producing pop-ups, is putting together a month-long holiday market called #localTOmrkt at the vacant lot on the corner of Yonge and Gould. BlogTO is one of their partners and looking to promote the BlogTO app. AdHoc is inviting all local and independent businesses in Downtown Yonge to either come and take part in the market that supports independent creators and local businesses of Toronto, or offer some kind of discount or promotion that users would have access to upon download of BlogTO’s app.

AdHoc wants to support the local businesses in the area and this would be an opportunity to promote your business through BlogTO and #localTOmrkt.

AdHoc is also very interested in any kind of partnership or in-kind sponsorship opportunities as this is the first year this market is being put together.

For more information, please contact the AdHoc team at info@adhocpopup.com

80% of responding Toronto Mayoral and Council candidates support building the Minimum Grid

Earlier this year, Cycle Toronto called on all candidates running for mayor and council for the next term of council to commit to building the Minimum Grid: a city-wide grid of 100 km of protected bike lanes and 100 km of bicycle boulevards by 2018.

You can find the press release here.

Is your business wheelchair accessible?

Here are some of the things to consider:

- Is the entrance barrier-free? (ie. no stairs to enter, unobstructed sidewalk)
- Are doorways wide enough (minimum 35”) for a wheelchair or walker to pass through?
- Are some of the tables standard height (29”) with removable chairs?  Bar height tables or booths pose challenges.
- Are washrooms on the main floor or do they have elevator/ramp access?
- Are washroom stalls big enough (minimum 72”x72”) for a wheelchair to enter?

Why should wheelchair accessibility matter to you? People with disabilities account for an estimated $25 billion in national consumer spending each year. This group is also estimated to influence the spending decisions of 12 to 15 million other Canadians. In addition to the large spending power of this group, accessibility should be on your radar because of the imminent implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The AODA will soon mandate that all businesses and public spaces meet minimum accessibility requirements. If cost is an issue, new initiatives such as the StopGap program and the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund are available:

At AccessTO we review restaurants, bars and cafes that are wheelchair accessible. The criteria used is developed from the City of London Design Standards and Accessibility Guidelines for the City of Toronto. We provide measurements and photos to our readers so that they can evaluate a restaurant for themselves and participate in Toronto’s vibrant food and entertainment scene. If you think your business meets our criteria please get in touch - we would love to discuss reviewing you on our site!

Check out our website for more helpful tips.
