Cultural and Historic
Our friendly Discovery Team offers free tours of the Cultural and Historic Downtown Yonge neighbourhood from June 9 to August 28, 2015. Hear fascinating facts about the Old City Hall, Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre, Massey Hall and more.
Tours run from Tuesdays through Saturdays, and departs at 3pm from the corner of Yonge Dundas. You will be able to spot our Discovery Team by looking for the green flag. The tours are approximately an hour.
Tours are offered in English, French, Spanish and Russian. If you would like to take a tour in any of the offered languages besides English, please book the tour in advance to ensure that the service is available. For tour in English, feel free to drop by the corner of Yonge Dundas at least ten minutes before the start time.
For larger group tours, we can arrange a special day and time.

Every Wednesday, the Toronto Blues Society and Jazz Bistro bring music fans performances from Canada’s finest blues musicians. Don’t miss intimate shows by local favourites and some of the best Canadian touring artists.

As one of Canada’s hardest working and most prolific blues guitar virtuosos, David Gogo has amassed a worldwide fanbase and an impressive list of accomplishments. He has earned four JUNO nominations, the 2012 Western Canadian Music Award for Blues Recording of the Year, the CBC Saturday Night Blues’ Great Canadian Blues Award for a lifetime contribution to the blues in Canada, and has twice been named Maple Blues Guitarist of the Year.
David has played on stage with Johnny Winter, Otis Rush, Albert Collins and Bo Diddley and has opened for George Thorogood, ZZ Top, The Tragicially Hip, Buddy Guy, Little Feat and Jimmy Vaughan. In March 2013, he performed as the supporting act for blues legend B.B. King for the third time in his career, this time at the Port Theatre in Gogo’s hometown of Nanaimo, BC. www.davidgogo.com

David Vest is a fabulous, foot-stompin’ roots-rocker and boogie-woogie piano player, who can just as effortlessly play beautiful jazz and country blues ballads. His live shows are legendary, and his career probably pre-dates rock and roll itself.
Onstage with Big Joe Turner and opening for Roy Orbison before he was old enough to vote, he later played with blues giants like Bo Diddley, Jimmy T99 Nelson, and Hubert Sumlin. He wrote the first songs recorded by Tammy Wynette and has been credited with keeping an important part of Americana alive.

Lance Anderson is a Juno award winning producer (Leahy) and ‘Maple Blues Keyboardist of the Year’ (2013). He currently tours and records with Shakura S’Aida, having just completed a tour of Europe with her in July 2015. Michael Sloski is is one of the most recorded drummer’s in Canada; he is a drummer’s drummer, having recorded and played with everyone from Bruce Cockburn to Holly Cole to Manteca to The Cameo Blues Band and many more.
Together, Lance and Michael have been performing as the country’s premiere Hammond organ and drum duo for over a decade. Two of the country’s most respected players, playing the music that they love at an incredible level of depth and feeling. Wherever either of them wants to go…they can.

Harmonica great Carlos del Junco has toured Canada regularly since 1996 and tours often in Germany and the United States. He has played all the major jazz, blues, and folk festivals across Canada. Jimmy Bowskill has been impressing his musical elders since age 11, when he attracted the attention of the late great bluesman, Jeff Healey, by busking outside his Toronto club. Since then, Jimmy has toured internationally, including shows in Germany, Ukraine, France, Mexico and at the World Expo in Japan in 2005. Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre Events

Guided tours of this National Historic Site and the last operating double-decker theatre in the world, recount the history and restoration of the complex. Visit the original and new lobbies, the elegant Elgin Theatre, the unique and resplendent Winter Garden Theatre and samples from the world’s largest collection of vaudeville scenery. As well, a backstage exhibit housing the Winter Garden’s original Simplex Silent Film Projector and a dressing room containing artifacts from the time period are on view.
