DATU

Electronic-tribal music duo DATU is a modern Filipino music group, consisting of producers Alexander Junior (formerly of Times Neue Roman, and Styrofoam Ones), and Romeo Candido (formerly of KUYA, and Prison Dancer). DATU showcases movement, gongs, and storytelling through singing and rap, reinvigorating traditional Filipino music with their cultural transcendence, creating a brand new sound.

After their music videos for SUNS, Bones & World Gong Crazy instantly amassed about a million views online, DATU was listed on Wavelenth's 100 Essential Canadian Tracks of 2015 and Nominated for Best Song for Berlin's Music Video Awards of 2017. Hailing from the intensely diverse cultural hub that is the 6ix (formerly known as Toronto), the band carries on the city's unmistakable legacy of ethereal trip hop with an indie edge - but now spun together harmoniously with Filipino mysticism and tradition. Already on Fader's radar, DATU's upcoming album, High Blood features more daring culture jamming via the ancestral rhythms of gongs, futuristic, Dilla-inspired loops and a twilight-filtered Toronto.

Yonge Street Mission (YSM)To people who believe that every person is of value and has promise, Yonge Street Mission is the vibrant, local Christian development agency that is leading an infectious movement - going beyond meeting immediate needs by offering holistic programs and a pathway that can transform the lives of people living with poverty in Toronto from merely surviving to thriving. All assistance is given strictly on the basis of need, regardless of colour, culture, religion, economic statues, sexual orientation or social condition. We believe that all individuals deserve the opportunity for full and just participation in society.

YSM’s Double Take thrift store is a community training and employment initiative for people who face obstacles to regular employment and newcomers to Canada. The goal is to help people living in poverty build stronger futures and work their way out of poverty.
