Ongoing capital improvements ensure the Downtown Yonge streets are beautified and in a state-of-good-repair. Here are just a few of the key capital improvement projects that have been completed.
As part of the Yonge Street Streetscape Project, new trees and black tree grates were installed on the sidewalks on Yonge Street within the BIA. The new tree grates are better designed to reduce litter buildup at the base of the trees and the sleek black colour is in keeping with streetscape branding guidelines that create a sense of uniformity.
Downtown Yonge partnered with Toronto Hydro and the City of Toronto on a five-year Yonge Street Streetscape Project that saw the reconstruction of sidewalks on Yonge Street between Richmond Street and Grosvenor/Alexander streets. New sidewalks were installed with granite detailing that improve the walkability of the streetscape.
Over the years, 28 branded street poles have been installed at major intersections on Yonge Street within the BIA’s boundaries. The branded street poles help create a sense of place, identifying that you are located within the Downtown Yonge neighbourhood as well as beautify the streetscape
