In the SpotlightSpotlight on Cielo Restaurant Its name translates to “sky” in Italian. And those who have sampled the fare at Cielo Restaurant will agree that the fine dining establishment on Elm Street lives up to its heavenly label. Since it opened its doors two years ago, Cielo has attracted a steady stream of patrons who rave about the contemporary Italian menu, prepared only from fresh ingredients. Popular items include pasta in pesto cream sauce -- a rich twist to the classic recipe -- lamb chops and duck. “Our customers always tell me that the food here is absolutely delicious,” says Clarisa Tesu, Cielo’s director of sales and marketing. “People just the love the food and they keep coming back.” But while the food is ethereal, the atmosphere and service at Cielo are decidedly down to earth. Expect no snooty waiters here, or prima donna chefs. In fact, says Tesu, the staff members at Cielo go out of their way to please customers, even if that means tinkering with the dishes. “We’re very good at accommodating customer requests, like maybe they prefer penne instead of spaghetti, or would rather not have any sauce on their duck,” says Tesu. “A lot of restaurants won’t let you do that because their chefs are very picky, but here we really cater to our customers’ needs.” Cielo Restaurant is located at 31 Elm Street between Yonge and Bay.
